Pinglin is characterized the Xue Shan mountain range and its surrounding mountain chains. Its elevation ranges from three hundred to eight hundred meters. The Feitsui Reservoir supplies water to the Taipei metro area. To protect its water source, development has been strictly prohibited in the region since 1983. Therefore the tea plants can grow in a very natural and mild environment year round.
